Who we are

THE ASSOCIATION OF JUNIOR LEAGUES INTERNATIONAL, INC., a New York nonprofit corporation ("AJLI" or "we" or "us"), maintains this Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) as part of its Terms and Conditions of Use (the "Terms"). This Privacy Policy applies to your use of the www.ajli.org website operated by AJLI (the "Site") and the features and services available from time to time on the Site to visitors and those restricted for use by members (each a member and collectively, "Members") of the Site (collectively and including the Site, the "Services"). It is intended to provide you with a description of how your information that you provide to AJLI, including your personally identifiable information (“PII”), when you register to become a Member or through your use of the Services (collectively your "Personal Information") is collected and used and the measures that we take to protect your Personal Information.  This Privacy Policy also applies to your access to and use of the Site from a League website that supports single sign-on (“SSO”), where you will be automatically registered to the Site the first time you access the Site.

 

Your Use and Acceptance of the Policy

Anyone may visit and use the Site, but only (i) members of a Junior League ("League"); (ii) staff of AJLI; (iii) certain staff of Leagues as permitted by AJLI; and (iv) certain service providers permitted by AJLI may become Members, create a Member Account ("Account") and access and use portions of the Services that are restricted to Members.

By using the Services provided by AJLI, or by providing information or data to us through our Site, you affirmatively consent and agree to the terms of this Policy and consent to our collection, use, processing, transfer, storage and disclosure of such information in accordance with the terms of this Policy.  If you do not agree with the terms of the Policy or to abide by them, please do not use the Site.

 

Information We Collect


Personally Identifiable Information

AJLI collects Personal Information from you when you voluntarily register to become a Member and create an Account, or, when you access the Site from a League platform that supports SSO,  including personally identifiable information.  Personally identifiable information is any data that can identify you whether alone or in combination with another piece of data. Examples include your name, physical address, e-mail address, telephone number, date of birth, financial account number, or job title and employer information.

When you register and create an Account you will be required to provide your e-mail address, and AJLI Member ID provided to you by your League or AJLI. If you access the Site from a League platform that supports SSO, this information is transmitted automatically to AJLI.

We may also collect your name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, credit card number, and pin/security code in connection with any transaction you initiate through the Site or your use of the Services such as making a purchase or registering for an event (i.e. conferences and webinars).

When you register or access the Site as a Member, the Site will create an Account profile (“Profile”).  You may voluntarily provide other information to your Profile which may include photos, and civic leadership information, descriptions of your involvement with and positions held in your League, or other Member Content (as defined in the Terms). All Members will be able to view the information that is in your Profile.

When using the Services as a Member, you may conduct searches, join or form a group, register for an event, and transmit and make available information to other Members. This type of Account activity information is primarily retained so that when you access your Account you can view prior activity and retain access to posts or messages you have sent or received.  AJLI will also collect usage information regarding your Account activity to assist us in understanding the way our Members use the Services so that AJLI can continue to improve the Services and facilitate the communication and networking of Members through the Services.

AJLI may also collect information about the various Leagues and their activities. This may include information about you from other sources, such as your Junior League office, League newsletters or other communications, newspapers, and from other users of the Services.  AJLI may include such information on the Site.

 

Non-identifiable Information

Regardless of whether you are a Member or a non-member user of the Site, AJLI may collect certain non-identifying information related to your use of the Services as you navigate and use the Site including, for example, your browser type and IP address. This type of information is collected to facilitate recognizing you as a previous visitor in connection with your future visits to our Site, to monitor usage and improve the Services.

We use "cookies" to retain certain non-identifying information about you, whether you are a Member or a non-member user. A cookie is a piece of data that AJLI sends to your computer. AJLI uses cookies in a variety of ways and AJLI may use cookies to identify your internet browser and store your Member preferences. Cookies may also be used to help AJLI understand your use of the Site and Services in an effort to improve the offerings and features. We may also use action tags, Web Beacons or GIF tags throughout the Site and Services to understand how you were directed to the Site and how you navigate and use the Site and the Services, but no personally identifiable information is collected by AJLI through the use of these technologies.  You may set your browser to notify you when a cookie is sent or to refuse cookies altogether, but certain features of the Site may not work properly without cookies.  AJLI also uses Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors engage with the Site.  For more information on how Google Analytics collects and processes data, please visit www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/.

AJLI allows our corporate sponsors, partners, and other approved advertisers to place advertisements and links on the Site.  These third parties may also use cookies. AJLI has no control over such third party cookies and our Terms and this Policy do not apply to their use. We encourage you to review the terms of use and privacy policy of those third parties when you follow advertisements or links to their sites to learn their information collection and privacy practices, including how they use cookies.

 

How We Use The Information We Collect

AJLI uses your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. By using the Services, you consent to having any information you provide to us to transferred and processed in the United States.

AJLI uses your Personal Information and any other information you provide to facilitate your use of the Services.   AJLI will use the information to communicate with you about the Services or respond to your inquiries. The Personal Information and other information you provide will also be used by AJLI in connection with certain features of the Services accessible by Members only such as being included in a Member listing or directory.

AJLI may customize the content delivered to you based on your Profile and use of the Site and Services. For example, when a member of the Junior League of the City of New York visits the Site or uses the Services images from that geographic location may appear in the background or on the Site.

If you make a purchase or register for an event using the Services, AJLI will use your Personal Information to process and ship your order, or facilitate your attendance at an event and your Personal Information may also be used in connection with any Member support function in connection with your order or event registration.

As part of the function of the Services, AJLI may from time to time send you e-mail notifications and alerts related to your Account which may include, for example, activities related to your membership in a group.  AJLI may use your e-mail address to provide you with notices regarding AJLI events, resources, services, meetings or other activities and benefits of AJLI and the Leagues which may be relevant or beneficial to you in connection with your membership in a League.

The Personal Information and other information that you provide and post as a Member whether in your Profile or otherwise in connection with your use of the Services may accessible by other Members and is done at your own risk. A primary function of the Services is to allow you to share your information and communicate and network with other Members. You have the ability to decide what information you will make available to other Members via your Profile and through your use of and participation in the Services.

As stated above, access to the Member's portion of the Services is restricted as described in the "Collection of Information" section of this Privacy Policy; however, AJLI is not responsible for the actions of Members or any other person with whom you may share your Personal Information or any other information and cannot guarantee that the Personal Information or any other information you make available to other Members via your Profile or your use of the Services will not be viewed by unauthorized persons. Members having access to the Services may, by their actions, make your Personal Information, other information or Member Content generally available to the public. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the use by any other Member of any information you make available to other Members in connection with our use of the Services.

No method of security can provide absolute protection and we are not responsible for the breach or other failure of any privacy settings or security measures contained in the Services. You understand and acknowledge that, even after any information you make available via your Profile and through your use of the Services is deleted or removed from the Services, copies of such information may continue to be viewable if contained in cached or archived pages or if any of such information has been copied or stored by another Member, any person with whom you may have shared your information or any person that accessed your information without authorization.

 

How We Share or Disclose the Data We Collect

AJLI will only share your Personal Information only with third parties (1) in accordance with this Privacy Policy; (2) with advance notice to you to obtain your consent; or (3) in accordance with applicable data protection laws of the United States.

Service Providers and Contractors: We may engage third party service providers or contractors to perform certain business functions for us which may include, but are not limited to, fulfilling orders, order shipment and delivery, sending postal mail and e-mail, maintaining member lists, conducting events and conferences, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance, processing payments, performing computer system and Services maintenance, and providing hosting services. Any service provider or contractor engaged to perform a business function on our behalf may have access to your information in connection with the performance of their services. Generally, these service providers and consultants will be obligated to use your information only as necessary in connection with their provision of services and to maintain reasonable safeguards to protect your information.

We may share your Personal Information with third parties who agree to provide our members with a member benefit (for e.g., insurance discounts).  

Enforcement of Laws/Legal Requirements: We may share your information to comply with applicable laws or in cooperation with legal authorities, which may include, among other things, disclosure of your information in connection with a subpoena or court order. Additionally, we may share your information when we believe it is necessary to enforce the Terms or to protect the rights and property of AJLI, Members or non-member users of the Site or to protect the health and safety of any individual.

Transfer or Sale of Business: In connection with our continued operations, we may combine (whether by merger, membership, purchase or other method) with another entity or transfer or sell a portion or all of the operations or the assets to another entity. In the event of any of these types of transactions your information may be among the assets transferred or may come under the control of the new entity.

AJLI does not sell or, except as stated above, share your information with third parties for direct marketing purposes or otherwise without your permission.

 

How long do we keep your information?

We keep the information that we collect only for as long as it is reasonably necessary.  We will retain your information as long as it is needed to provide you with the Services, such as to maintain your Member account; and/or during the time when your Member account continues to exist.  We will also retain your information as necessary to comply with applicable legal obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements.

 

Your Privacy Rights

You may view and revise any of your information contained in your Profile and update the preferences and settings applicable to your Account at any time by visiting, respectively, the "Edit My Profile" and "Account Settings" features or similar editing tools available through the Services. When you share any Personal Information or other information through your use of the Services, you may not have the ability to revise, update, change or delete all such information in all cases.

You may deactivate your Account at any time by sending a request for deactivation to info@ajli.org. Your Profile will no longer be viewable by users of the Site, but may continue to be stored in AJLI's backup data storage systems and will be retained in accordance with AJLI's data retention policy and as necessary to comply with applicable federal, state and local laws.  If, after deactivation, you subsequently re-register for the Site or access the Site again through SSO, your account and Profile will be re-activated. 

AJLI retains the right to deactivate your Account if we receive notice from your League that you are no longer a member of that League. When your Account is deactivated you will no longer be able to access your Account and your Profile will not be accessible to any Member. Your Personal Information will be handled as described in the preceding paragraph.

 

Third Party Links

The Services may contain links to other websites which are not operated by AJLI, including, but not limited to, links to the websites of Leagues and AJLI's corporate sponsors and partners and may also contain advertisements from other companies. This Privacy Policy is only applicable to Personal Information and other information you provide to AJLI. When you link to and access a third party website, any Personal Information or other information that you provide at that website will be governed by the practices and privacy policy of the applicable third party. We have no responsibility for and no control over the practices or privacy policy of any of third party, including those to which you may be linked through the Services.

Additionally, any website that you visit via a link, including those of AJLI's corporate sponsors and partners, may use cookies or other tracking technologies for a variety of purposes, including but not limited to, monitoring the effectiveness of their links and traffic received via those links. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any cookies or tracking technologies that may be used by an operator of a website that you visit via a link from the Services and the third parties practices regarding the use of cookies and tracking technologies will be governed by the privacy policy of the applicable third party.

When you visit a website via a link from the Services, including those of our corporate partners and sponsors, your IP address may be automatically received by that third party. No other information is provided by AJLI to the operator of any third party website that you may visit via a link from the Services.

Children’s Privacy

AJLI does not intend for use of the Services by children under 13 years of age, as further described in the Terms and does not knowingly collect Personal Information or other information from people under 13 years of age.

If you are under 13, please do not use or provide any information on our Site or on or through any of their features/register on our Site, use any of the interactive features of our Site or the App, or provide any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, or any screen name or user name you may use. If we learn we have collected or received personal information from someone under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information. For California Residents:

California Civil Code Section § 1798.83 permits our members that are California residents to request from us, once a year and without charge, the names and addresses of those third parties to whom we have disclosed their personal information for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes and information regarding the categories of personal information that were disclosed to such third parties. How Do We Protect Your Information 

AJLI has implemented various administrative, technical and physical security measures, including firewalls, to protect your Personal Information against unauthorized disclosure, use, loss/theft or modification. When you make a purchase using the Services, credit card numbers and other sensitive personal information such as your password are encrypted before it is sent to AJLI by the use of secure socket layer technology ("SSL"), provided that you are using an SSL enabled browser. Your Personal Information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of authorized personnel and service providers who have special access rights in order to do their jobs and are required to keep the information confidential.  When AJLI transmits your Personal Information to our third party service providers, the Personal Information is encrypted during transmission.

We do not use SSL technology when you submit Personal Information for any other purpose, including, but not limited to, registering for events (except and only to the extent that Personal Information regarding payment or passwords are included). No method of transmission or electronic storage can provide absolute certainty of security, and as such we cannot guarantee the absolute security of the Information that we collect.

Please keep in mind though that whenever you give out personal information online there is a risk that third parties may intercept and use that information. While we strive to protect our Site user's PII and privacy, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you disclose online and you do so at your own risk.  You should exercise caution when deciding to disclose or share your personal or other information. 

 

Do Not Track Signals

Our Site does not respond to Do Not Track signals. 

 

Changes to this Privacy Policy

AJLI reserves the right to revise the Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason, including as necessary based on changes to the Services, our Personal Information collection and use practices, and applicable laws. Any revisions to the Privacy Policy will be posted on this page and such posting will constitute notice to you of the change, will show the effective date of the current Privacy Policy and will be effective when posted. Your continued use of the Services after a revised Privacy Policy is posted will constitute your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy. It is your responsibility to regularly check this page and review the Privacy Policy for changes.

AJLI is located in the United States and operates this Site from the United States. Any information that you provide to us will be transferred out of your home country to the United States. As stated in AJLI’s Privacy Policy, to create an Account and access the Services we do require that you provide certain Personal Information, including but not limited to your first and last name. Depending upon the Services that you use, you may also be asked to provide us with your mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, credit card number and/or pin/access code.

We will also collect other Personal Information that you choose to provide to us. For example, if you contact us for assistance or with an inquiry you may be asked to provide your first and last name, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number, order number (if inquiring about a purchase made through the Services) and such other information as you wish to submit to us for our assistance.

You may elect at any time not to provide Personal Information to us, but in that event you may not be able to create an Account or access the Services.

Our affiliate, the Junior League of London (“JLL”), has obtained affirmative, informed, and freely-given consent from you, its Member, to share your potentially personally identifying and personally identifying information with AJLI so that AJLI may provide administrative services to the JLL.  This Privacy Statement describes the information received by AJLI, how AJLI uses the information, and your privacy rights.  Please also review AJLI’s Privacy Policy for a description of how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your Personal Information.

 

Information Disclosed to AJLI

JLL discloses the Profiles of its Members to AJLI, which includes your name, email address, physical address, telephone number, League affiliation, and any other identifying information you have voluntarily provided to your Profile. 

 

How AJLI Uses Your Information

AJLI relies on the Member Profiles to maintain an accurate count of its numbers in different Leagues, including JLL.  AJLI uses this information to, among other things, confirm a user is a current member of a Junior League, facilitate AJLI member dues billing, and develop member analytics  From time to time we use Members’ personal information, specifically Members’ email addresses, to communicate with Members about AJLI’s services and events.

 

How AJLI Shares Your Information

AJLI will only share your Personal Information only with third parties (1) in accordance with this Privacy Policy; (2) with advance notice to you to obtain your consent; or (3) in accordance with applicable data protection laws of the United States.

How long does AJLI keep your information?

We keep your personal information that we receive from the JLL only for as long as it is reasonably necessary.  We will retain your information as long as it is needed to provide JLL with administrative services, and as long as necessary to maintain your Member account; and/or during the time when your Member account continues to exist.  We will also retain your information as long as it is necessary to comply with applicable legal obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements.

 

EU-US Data Transfer

AJLI is located in the United States. Please be aware that currently the United States does not afford statutory protections for Personal Information equivalent to those within the European Union.

The information that JLL provides to us is transferred from JLL’s database which is housed in the United States to AJLI’s database in an encrypted state. The JLL has obtained your affirmative, informed, and freely-given consent to transfer and store your Personal Information in the United States and to its use and disclosure as described in this privacy policy.

 

Your Privacy Rights

You may request access to and correction of, amendment to, or deletion of any information provided to us at any time by contacting us at info@ajli.org. You may also request your information by mail addressed to The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc., 80 Maiden Lane, Suite 1504, New York, NY 10038.  We will respond to any written requests within thirty days. 

 

You may always decline to share certain personal information with us.  However, in such cases we may not be able to provide to you with the full range of features and functionalities of the Services.

 

We provide you with the opportunity to opt-out of receiving certain communications from us at any point in time.  If you wish to cease receiving e-mails and other communications from us, you can opt-out of by contacting us at info@ajli.org.  Please note that some communications, such as those related to your purchase of a product, your group membership, or your registration for an event, are required and for which AJLI does not provide an opt-out. 

 

In the event we become aware that we have collected Sensitive Information, we will obtain your consent prior to revealing such Sensitive Information to any unauthorized third party or to using it for purposes other than those for which it was originally collected.

 

In addition to the above rights of access, correction, amendment or deletion, as a Member who is in the EU, you may, subject to applicable law, have some or all of the following rights with respect to your personal information:

  • to restrict processing of your personal data under certain circumstances
  • to transmit your data (as provided by you, directly or otherwise collected by us by virtue of your use of the Services) in machine-readable format to you or to a third party when we justify our processing on the basis of your consent or the performance of a contract with you;
  • to withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal data (where that processing is based on your consent);
  • to obtain, or see a copy of the appropriate safeguards under which your personal data is transferred to a third country or international organization;
  • to object, at any time, to the processing of your personal information, on legitimate grounds, except if otherwise permitted by applicable law;
  • to erase your personal data (in limited circumstances, such as where it is no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which it was collected or processed); and
  • to file a complaint with your local supervisory authority for data protection.
