Founded in 1901 by New Yorker and social activism pioneer, Mary Harriman, The Junior League empowers transformational female leaders to set bold goals, open their circles, disrupt convention and change the conversation for the betterment of civil society.
On our 120-plus-year journey, we've tackled intractable and systemic problems alongside teams of influential, com/passionate community and corporate partners, government officials and dedicated change-makers who have been resolute in finding solutions, improving lives and strengthening communities near and far.
True to their extraordinary legacy, today’s League members are at the forefront of addressing the refugee crisis, the opioid crisis, human trafficking, foster care, juvenile justice, teen self-esteem, cybercrimes, literacy and the environment, among other tough issues. Over the years they have been instrumental in building into our daily lives many of the privileges we now take for granted, including free school lunches, literacy programs, children’s theaters and museums, clean water, children’s nutrition and greater awareness about the vices of modern society, such as domestic violence and alcohol abuse.
