Dr. Aronté Bennett
Dr. Aronté Bennett is the 2020-21 President of the Junior League of Philadelphia (JLP). Since joining in 2010, Aronté has served in a variety of capacities. Notably, as the VP of Marketing, she led the process of creating the logo for JLP’s issue-based community impact project, Apple a Day Healthy Living Initiative™, receiving an award for her efforts. She also chaired JLP’s Kids in the Kitchen Committee the year it launched; the program has since grown to serve more than 500 children a year.
As JLP’s first Black President, Aronté recognizes that if it is to continue to attract women of the highest caliber, JLP must live up to the promise of its diversity statement. She has set about achieving this goal through a variety of avenues: collaborating on the development of social justice statements in support of Black Lives Matter and condemning anti-Asian hate; leading efforts to formalize a dues scholarship program, ensuring that JLP is accessible to any woman who wishes to join; inviting subject matter experts to serve as membership meeting keynotes; supporting efforts to generate more diverse vendor lists; and encouraging consideration of site accessibility when planning events. But the change of which Aronté is most proud is advocating for a restructuring that resulted in seats for Diversity and Inclusion Committee chairs being added to Management Council and the Board. It is her hope that this change will permit values associated with diversity and inclusion to permeate JLP’s strategy and operations for years to come.
