Ana Cristina Agema
Diversity and Inclusion Committee Manager, Junior League of Kalamazoo
Ana Cristina Agema was born and raised in Costa Rica. She has always had a passion for inclusion and human rights. In her home country, she served as a lawyer, advising women, victims of domestic violence and undocumented residents on how to acquire housing and legal residency.
In 2011, she married her husband Tim and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. She quickly developed a great love for her new community and began exploring opportunities to make an impact.
In 2019, Ana Cristina joined the Junior League of Kalamazoo in pursuit of purpose and the desire to give back. She was inspired by the talented women in the League, leading and contributing with their experiences to improve the conditions for women and children in vulnerable situations. As a new member, she saw an opportunity to create more diversity and create more inclusive practices. She has consistently challenged the League to think about diversity and inclusion and in May 2019 was recognized as "Member of the Month."
Ana Cristina is currently the manager of the Diversity and Inclusion committee. She and her committee have introduced thoughtful icebreakers at GMMs and established Affinity Groups to bring members together. She has personally supported Spanish translations of League publications and is committed to creating a welcoming environment where all members are included and can have their voices heard. The Junior League of Kalamazoo is on track to expand the diversity of its membership and ensure inclusion is at the forefront of everything they do.
