2005 Leadership Development Award winner
The Junior League of Roanoke Valley
The Junior League of Roanoke Valley won the 2005 Leadership Development Award for the Ronald McDonald House Playground, a program through which Provisional members organized the construction of a playground for the local Ronald McDonald House while developing skills useful for League membership.
This program is designed to teach the Provisional class the skills needed to plan, manage and execute a community project, while improving their community.
As a part of this program, the Provisionals built a playground for the local Ronald McDonald House, which the Roanoke League originally helped found in 1984.
The playground still benefits the children who live in the house, which serves hundreds of families a year.
