Annually, each Junior League is billed a per capita dues of $43 (U.S.) for each of its members other than Sustaining Emerita members. Leagues are billed during the first week of July for all members on its roster as of July 1. Payment is due no later than September 30*. AJLI does not assess dues for Sustaining Emerita members, who may be granted this status upon request when they reach the age of 80.
An email notification is sent to each League's AJLI Dues Billing Admin(s), when the notice and roster are ready to be viewed.

Membership Dues can be tricky, but in the end, it is best summarized as follows: You may be able to deduct Membership Fees or Dues you pay to a qualified organization. However, you can deduct only the amount that is more than the value of the benefits of the goods and services provided.
As each Junior League is its own independent 501(c)(3), and each has different dues amounts, each League also has varying benefits and/or differing values of “goods and services provided.”
It is therefore best and recommended to:
Lastly, AJLI is also its own independent 501(c)(3); and as such - does not, and cannot, give individual tax advice.

AJLI’s Purpose is to support the individual Junior Leagues in their fulfillment of The Junior League Mission. The dues paid to AJLI by member-Leagues support specific initiatives and programming in three primary areas. These include: 1. Community and Civic Leadership Development; 2. Promoting Shared Junior League Identity, including protecting and supporting the Junior League brand and facilitating communications among and between individual Leagues and AJLI; and 3. Organizational Development that includes League consultation and support that Junior League members can access through AJLI.

According to Section 3.2.4 of the AJLI Procedures 2014-15, dues are prorated, based on the AJLI July 1-June 30 fiscal year. The prorating schedule is as follows: $43 per capita for each Provisional or reinstated member joining on July 1 and before October 1; $32.25 for each member joining on October 1 and before January 1; $21.50 for each member joining on January 1 and before April 1; and $10.75 for each member joining on April 1 and before July 1.

These recommended dues procedures for transferring members are set as follows based on when the transfer occurs and on AJLI's July 1-June 30 fiscal year.
If the Transfer Occurs Between July 1 and December 31:
SENDING LEAGUE:
RECEIVING LEAGUE:
If the Transfer Occurs Between January 1 and June 30:
SENDING LEAGUE:
RECEIVING LEAGUE:
NOTE: The member would owe the receiving League a full year's dues for the following League (fiscal) year. Keep in mind that the fiscal year in the member’s new League may have already begun on May 1 or June 1, possibly before the transfer; in that case, the member would be paying dues to her new League as soon as she arrives.
In addition, if a member transferring between Jan. 1 and June 30 paid her sending League dues for the following League (fiscal) year before her transfer, the sending League should refund the full amount to the member for the upcoming year and alert the receiving League that they should collect all of their dues, including the $43 AJLI per capita dues.
For transfers involving a non-current member who was not reinstated, the receiving League will be charged AJLI dues once the member is activated on their roster. The amount will be determined by the date the member was activated on the receiving League's roster, per AJLI's prorated quarterly dues schedule.

AJLI accepts payment of Annual Dues (and other dues payments that occur throughout the year) via cash, check or a wire transfer to our operating bank account. We do not accept payment for AJLI Dues via credit card, which means that it is not possible to pay AJLI dues online. If a League wishes to remit dues payments via wire transfer, they should contact Judy Albertson for instructions. Judy can be reached at 1-800-955-3248, EXT. 317, or via email at JAlbertson@ajli.org.
Please note that individual members pay their League dues to the Leagues they belong to, not to AJLI, and must contact their Leagues for payment instructions.

Voluntarism refers to the concept of a civic sector, distinct from the private or government sectors, that is supported by individuals and institutions who provide services in the form of leadership or labor without monetary compensation. Volunteerism, on the other hand, refers specifically to the act of giving this time or service without compensation. In choosing to use the word voluntarism instead of volunteerism in The Junior League Mission, The Junior Leagues were intending to convey their belief in a strong voluntary sector that encompasses volunteering but is much broader than that. Junior Leagues believe there should be strong sector of nonprofit organizations delivering services and programs to those in need in communities. The Junior Leagues expressly support volunteering as a key component of a strong voluntary sector. That said, whenever the Junior League Mission is being written, in League bylaws as well as in other literature, you are required to use the term voluntarism. You may use the term volunteerism outside of the JL Mission (and by extension the JL Reaching Out Statement which simply restates the Junior League commitment to voluntarism) when you are intending to focus more specifically on the act of voluntary service.

The Birkman Method® consists of a 100-question assessment and corresponding report that facilitate team building, executive coaching leadership development, career counseling and interpersonal conflict resolution. The Birkman Method® combines motivational, behavioral and interest evaluation into one single assessment, which provides a multi-dimensional and comprehensive analysis, thus reducing the need for multiple assessments. The questionnaire is delivered online and should take about 45 minutes to complete. It has been translated into 11 languages in addition to English. AJLI has used the Birkman Method® with its Board, staff and Leagues’ leadership teams for more than 15 years with the goal of creating positive relationships and productive teamwork among leaders in order to support an environment in which a League can succeed.
Not helpful? Ask a Question
Leagues use the Birkman in a variety of ways. Some use it as a teambuilding tool for their board while others use it for their entire leadership team. Still others offer it to new/Provisional members as part of their orientation. Regardless of how a League intends to use it, the League must contract with a certified Birkman consultant and then arrange for the designated individuals to take the Birkman assessment. AJLI makes the Birkman available to Junior Leagues at nonprofit rates (see below).

AJLI maintains a list of certified Birkman consultants, and the names of additional consultants can be obtained by contacting Birkman directly. While all of the consultants on AJLI’s list have experience working with Junior Leagues, AJLI does not rate or certify any of the individuals. The League’s representative and a certified Birkman consultant should agree upon outcomes for the session.
Following that conversation, the League’s representative should review the Guidelines (as of 2011) and the Birkman Method® Price List on the Birkman webpage and then contact Pamela Mosley at AJLI as quickly as possible to begin the process for preparing for her League’s Birkman consultation. Please visit the Birkman Method area of the AJLI website for more information.
